ABOUT ME

I was born in a small French tropical island, La Réunion, in the South Western Indian Ocean. I studied biology, ecology and evolution at the University of Burgundy and the University of Orléans, France. In 2002, I embarked on a doctorate with the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) in Montpellier, France. My PhD project focused on human tuberculosis molecular epidemiology in French Guiana. I then worked with various research teams in La Réunion (CRVOI), Tahiti (ILM) and Australia (UQ, AITHM-JCU, GCEID), exploring the diversity of different pathogens and the local epidemiology of diseases such as tuberculosis and leptospirosis.

My research focuses on the epidemiology and ecology of infectious diseases pertaining to the global tropics. Through my laboratory and field research, I seek to understand the emergence, transmission and persistence of diseases in time and space, through study of both internal factors (genetic diversity of pathogens) and external factors (vectors, animal reservoirs and/or environment) with implications for predicting and mitigating human disease risk. I apply a multidisciplinary approach and employ a diverse range of research methods/skills to decipher these complex epidemiological processes. I have a special interest in zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance and the 'One-health' concept.
